Outdoor wall light FAQs

Good to know

How to choose, place and install your outdoor wall light, and what to expect when you order.

Is it weatherproof?

Yes, it's made for outdoor use. Check the IP rating on this page: IP44 suits covered spots like porches and under eaves, while IP65 handles direct rain on fully exposed walls.

What size do I need, and how high should it go?

As a guide, choose a light about one quarter to one third the height of the door it sits beside. Mount it around 66 in (168 cm) from the ground, or just above eye level.

On a wide facade or garage, a larger fixture or a pair either side of the door keeps things balanced. Full dimensions are listed on this page.

Do I need an electrician?

For hardwired lights, yes. They connect to your exterior wiring, so we recommend installation by a licensed electrician, who'll also make sure the connection is properly sealed against the weather. Solar lights don't need wiring or an electrician.

Does it switch on automatically?

Some outdoor lights include a motion or dusk-to-dawn sensor, and if this one does, it's listed on this page. Otherwise it runs from your wall switch, and your electrician can add a sensor or timer.

Will it work with my home's power supply?

Yes. This wall light runs on 85V to 265V, so it suits homes in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.

How long does delivery take?

Shipping is free to the United States, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. Orders are processed within 1 to 2 business days and take 7 to 14 business days in total to arrive, with tracking provided where available.

Initially I wondered whether a simple sconce would look too plain. In the space it actually works well. Its a clean design that doesn't compete with the doorway. We kept everything around it fairly restrained, which helps the whole entrance feel more put together.

Beside the patio door this fits in well. I wanted something modern without too much decoration.

Finally replaced the dated porch fitting. Should of done it sooner, the doorway looks much more considered.

Before replacing our old patio light, I hadn't noticed how out of place it looked with the rest of the exterior. This sconce has a cleaner appearance that works better with the house. We kept the surrounding area simple, so the fitting doesn't need to compete with other details. I appreciate how it looks during the day just as much as the evening lighting. It hasn't transformed the whole outdoor space, but it has improved a corner that previously felt a little neglected.

What appealed to me was having a modern fitting without an unusual shape. I mostly wanted something that would look appropriate beside the door. The aluminium construction was another detail I considered. Happy with the appearance now that it's in place.

Lovely addition beside our door.

Really suits our contemporary exterior.
